A move I called for several weeks ago finally happened last night. The New York Red Bulls have signed prized academy player Juan Agudelo to a homegrown Generation adidas contract.

A member of the U.S. Under-17 national team and product of the Red Bulls Youh Academy, Agudelo impressed during preseason with the club. There had been some negotiation going back and forth between Agudelo, his agent and the club for over a year now.

As impressive as this kid is he comes in at a time when the Red Bulls are very heavy forward with players like Juan Pablo Angel, Macoumba Kandji, John Wolyniec, Conor Chinn and recently-signed Ghanaian forward Ibrahim Salou. With as many forwards as the Red Bulls have right now it will give Agudelo time to mature as a player, but given the fact that he is only 17-years old I wouldn’t be at all shocked to see him play some this year. From what I’ve heard he’s good enough to play in the league right now.
