The Seattle Sounders just announced a new signing today on their website. They have completed the signing of Swiss national team striker Blaise Nkufo.

Nkufo is currently the captain of Dutch champions FC Twente and will join the Sounders after this summer’s World Cup.

Nkufo should help forme a nice strike forceĀ alongside Freddy Montero. Nkufo brings good size at 6’2″ and will be another solid veteran (he’s 35-years old). He should be a solid players this summer for the Sounders, especially if they end up losing Montero in a transfer over the summer.

I do wonder what this move means for Nate Jaqua though. I doubt he’ll be on the chopping block right now but on the trade block, definitely if he doesn’t perform well early on this year.

Should both Montero and Nkufo work well together we should see great things in the Pacific Northwest this year.
