Holden Offered Big Pay Increase By MLS

For a few weeks we’ve learned that Stuart Holden and Major League Soccer have been in serious discussions about him staying in the league with the Houston Dynamo. Scotland’s Evening Times is reporting that the league has offered Holden a “ten-fold increase” in his salary.

Before Holden was making just under $35,000 a year. With the increase offered by the league he could be set to be making much more than that if he decides to stay with the league.

Now I’m not mathematician here but I’m willing to bet the league is just adding another 0 to the end of Holden’s old salary here.

Locking Holden up for a long-term deal is a key thing for the league right now. Losing another young player of Holden’s caliber would be another tough break for the league. While I know he’s had thoughts of moving overseas for a while now I do know he wants to help see this league grow into something great (paraphrasing his words here).

What do you all think here? Can the league re-sign Holden to a better deal or will they be S.O.L. yet again due to some lowball offers?
