We are quickly working our way through the 15 MLS clubs as we gear up for next week’s expansion draft. The new kids on the block, the Philadelphia Union will get to select 10 players from the list of unprotected players that each club will have to submit by next Monday. Today we get a look at one of the two MLS Cup participating teams, the Los Angeles Galaxy.
| Protected | Available | Exempt |
| David Beckham | Gregg Berhalter | Tristan Bowen |
| Chris Birchall | Alan Gordon | |
| Edson Buddle | Leonard Griffin | |
| A.J. DeLaGarza | Bryan Jordan | |
| Landon Donovan | Jovan Kirovski | |
| Todd Dunivant | Chris Klein | |
| Alecko Eskandarian | Dema Kovalenko | |
| Sean Franklin | Eddie Lewis | |
| Omar Gonzalez | Yohance Marshall | |
| Mike Magee | Stefani Miglioranzi | |
| Donovan Ricketts | Kyle Patterson | |
| Tony Sanneh | ||
| Josh Saunders | ||
| Julian Valentin |
This club has a lot of old and a lot of young. Mostly older guys will be left off the protected like with the exception of Beckham and Donovan of course. But for the most part we know Gonzalez will graduate from the GA contract based on his playing time this season.
Some folks may question why I would have someone like Esky on the protect list. I just think his upside when he is healthy is tough to overlook. Plus I couldn’t find a younger guy to take his place. Maybe Bruce Arena will go with an older player to replace someone like him but for now I like his chances of being protected.
See someone I missed on here? Let’s hear it.
