Who will Dallas protect this year? (Getty Images)
With the expansion draft being next week I have to pull in some two-a-days for my expansion draft lists. Earlier today we looked at DC United’s roster and who could be protected or not not this afternoon I want to turn our attention to FC Dallas.
Being in Dallas and around the club made this a little easier to do than most clubs. Not to mention Dallas has a ridiculous amount of Generation adidas player on their roster that will be exempt from this draft so it narrows things down rather easily.
| Protected | Available | Exempt |
| Jair Benitez | Ray Burse | Eric Avila |
| Marvin Chavez | Daniel Hernandez | Bruno Guarda |
| Jeff Cunningham | Steve Purdy | Josh Lambo |
| Kyle Davies | Pablo Ricchetti | Peri Marosevic |
| David Ferreira | Andre Rocha | Brek Shea |
| Atiba Harris | Daniel Torres | Anthony Wallace |
| Ugo Ihemelu | Dave van den Bergh | |
| George John | Blake Wagner | |
| Dax McCarty | ||
| Heath Pearce | ||
| Dario Sala |
Ricchetti is as good as gone so there is no reason to protect him. What could change with this club is if Shea or Avila are graduated somehow from the GA program. But more than likely none of Dallas’ GA players will be graduated this year. Out of the rest of the protected list the only iffy ones could be Harris or Sala. But I wouldn’t protect anyone over them right now. I know some may say to protect Burse over Sala but I kind of think Burse could be on his way out anyways. Just a hunch.
You may as about van den Burgh but the biggest reason why I left him off the protected list is because I would be willing to bet he would retire before going to Philly. Buzz Carrick got me thinking this based on what he wrote here.
See anyone I missed here? Let’s hear it.
