- Bill Hamid, DC United Youth Academy
A pretty big deal to those who want MLS clubs to get better youth academies. Steve Goff is reporting that DC United has signed Abdul “Bill” Hamid, a 18-year-old goalkeeper from their youth academy.
A few adjustments were made to the original offer from the league and should be finalized in the coming days, a source close to the negotiations said. Hamid “is really excited about getting started in his home town,” one contact close to the player said.
Hamid, who is from Annandale, Va., and is in the USA under-20 player pool, turned pro when he signed with Long View Management.
Good to see another club sign one of their own. Its a slow process here but more and more clubs are getting closer to seeing their own products on the field. No word on how good this kid really is but we know how well the US produces keepers so one can only hope he turns out to be another stellar young American keeper here.
