Cummings For MVP?

  • MVP Talk, Omar Cummings, Videos

He’s been on my shortlist for a little while, looks like others are taking note of Colorado’s Omar Cummings play as of late. Eight goals and 10 assists, yeah, that’s an MVP-type season right there.

What do you think? Should Cummings be on the shortlist right now for MVP or will his teammate and the league’s leading scorer Conor Casey nab more votes from him? I’ll have more on the MVP race this evening with my evening links and thoughts.

(By the way, I realize this video is a week old but it was worth posting to bring up Cummings.)

No one in the MLS has an answer for him.

  • WTF

I like him as a player, but he won't get MVP consideration.
(1) his teammate is leading the league in goals and will garner votes before Cummings

(2) he doesn't get enough pub to be top of mind when the votes go in (people don't spend all that much time on this)
(3) his team might not make the playoffs, and certainly won't be in Supporters Shield contention

If anyone in Colorado has a shot at MVP, it's Casey, not Cummings. Cummings has fewer goals and does less for the team effort. He's a good striker, but when you play with two up front, they both have to be able to pass to each other. Cummings never passes. He always shoots.

That was a joke right? Cummings leads the league in assists. He could have had 3 more yesterday, but the finishing wasn't quite as good as his passes.
Nothing against Casey but Cummings is the clear choice as MVP of the team so far this year.
