- 2009/10 CCL, Evening Links and Thoughts
A full evening of soccer is upon us. Tonight we have one MLS game and three CONCACAF Champions League games with MLS clubs involved. I’ve already discussed the lone MLS game tonight so let’s take a gander at the three CCL matches real quick before we get into some links.
Toluca – at – DC United (8pm, FSC)
United returns home looking for their first-ever win in the CONCACAF Champions League. Their opponents Toluca, defeated San Juan Jabloteh last week. DC hasn’t been quiet the same these last few games in any competition. We saw last week just how brutal of a schedule they have right now with the CCL and MLS slate eating away at their roster. DC needs a result in this game or their stay in this competition this year will be just like last year.
Houston – at - Deportivo Arabe Unido (8pm, FSC next-day delay)
The Dynamo face a big challenge in their first road trip as they play a Panama side that defeated Pachuca 4-1 last week. Tonight could be a chance for new signing Luis Angel Landin to make an impact with his new club. A win tonight on the road would definitely go a long way into helping Houston make the quarterfinals for a second straight year.
Columbus Crew – at – Cruz Azul (10pm, Telefutura)
Easily the toughest game for any MLS side tonight as the Crew head into Mexico City to face Cruz Azul. Columbus is looking to reverse the Mexican curse for US-based clubs and national teams. Based on what we saw last week out of the Crew they could very well be the side that could go into a Mexican city and get a result.
Big Finish To 2009?
With a little over four months left on the calendar for 2009 (yeah, seriously this year has flown by), Jason Davis over at Match Fit USA looks at just how important of a final quarter of the year it will be in American soccer. Not only will there be plenty of MLS action, CCL group play, World Cup qualifiers wrapping up but also the lovely World Cup draw in December.
Oh and there is some talk about CBA negotiations. Yeah the final months of this year are going to be really big for 2010.
Terry Cooke Joining Seattle?
Its a possibility. The former Rapids midfielder is apparently getting a look in Seattle. I also link this because the my quote on Cooke back in July got used. I still believe a playoff club like a Seattle would be wise to pick him up here.
