U.S. U-20 star Vincenzo Bernardo has left Italian side Napoli. According to an ESPNSoccernet source, Bernardo is seeking to sign with Major League Soccer. Bernardo has been with Napoli since 2006, playing primarily for the youth team.

Here’s the fun part now folks. We haven’t received any word on which club has filed a discovery claim on the young forward/midfielder. Bernardo is a resident of Madison, N.J., and was a member of the U-16 New York Red Bulls Academy prior to signing with Napoli.

My wonder is if he does sign with the league, will they go with a discovery claim or will they place this kid in a lottery system or even the allocation system. The ladder of the three sounds more likely and definitely less confusing for most to figure out. While honestly I know little on this kid I would like to think he’d be able to help some MLS club out there.

Think NY can claim him if he doesn’t go to the lottery or allocation system?

You can't "discover" a U20 player. He'd be a lottery pick like Davies, Szetella, Rogers, Yi, etc.
