Quakes Sign Brazilan Moreira

When you are in the gutter of your conference you will try anything to get out of it. Give credit to San Jose general manager John Doyle and head coach Frank Yallop for trying here. Today they’ve made another move in signing Brazilan midfielder Andre Luiz Moreira.

Moreira most recently played for Jaguares de Chiapas FC in the Mexican First Division. He registered four goals in his 51 appearances for Jaguares since signing there in 2007.

The 34-year-old central midfielder has played for Paris St. Germaine (France), Olympique de Marseille (France), S.L. Benfica (Portugal), C.D. Tenerife (Spain), Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Corinthians (Brazil).

While I’m not all for a mid-30s midfielder signing, I do see this move along with the signing of Ramon Sanchez as two moves that will help stablize their midfield a good bit. At the very least they should be able to control possession a bit more with Moreria and Sanchez than compaired to their current midfield lineup. Also, they should be able to get better wing play out of Darren Huckerby with the better possesional play in the middle.

What do you make of this move for San Jose?
