San Jose Stadium Getting Roof?

With the lack of internet over the weekend I nearly missed this post. Thankfully WVHooligan writer Geoff Reid did not miss out on it. He sent me this post over from CenterLineSoccer about the possible roof that could be on the new San Jose Stadium.

That permanent home has never been far from the minds of the Earthquakes’ front office, though, and on Thursday afternoon I was given a sneak preview of how they envision the team’s future digs. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement.

The images I saw were architectural renderings of what the completed stadium would look like and are currently being used to show prospective sponsors how their brand might be featured in the new facility. These images aren’t just pipe dreams put together by the marketing department, though; these drawings are an accurate representation of the stadium design as it currently exists.

It is, in a word,  beautiful. It wouldn’t look out of place at all in Europe.

The stands are tilted steeply, 20 rows high, and surround the field on three sides, with one end open. A roof — a real live roof, not like the canopies you see in Colorado, Salt Lake City, or the Home Depot Center — covers the seating throughout.

Believe me this is great news of it comes out. Not only does it mean the noise will be kept in, and I know that is good news for Quakes fans who are louder than people give credit for. But it also means it should add some quality stadium atmosphere that we haven’t really seen in MLS before.
