Just like the title suggests, we are closed today and possible part of tomorrow. I have family in from out of town this week and so I have not seen a second of any match from this past weekend nor will I even have the time to properly post about it. I should be back tomorrow though with at least goals of the week and power rankings…and maybe other news!

Cheers!

Slacker! Just jokin'…enjoy the family. And go easy on my boys in your rankings when you return because they had it rough enough on Saturday. Have you heard from Skippy? I so want to discuss his reaction to the tacky and sophomoric (in my opinion) antics of a certain Squad last night. 😉

    Cannon Giel,

Tacky? Sophomoric? Please. I completely support what the Riot Squad did last night (other than the guy jumping out of the stands, obviously). They wanted to send a message to Beckham of what they thought of him and his disrespect for the Galaxy and the league. What's wrong with that? Boos, chants, banners, that's all stuff fans do. Did he expect any less? What was tacky and sophomoric was the fact that he went over and taunted the guy who came out of the stands (check it out on Offside Rules). As for me, I will boo Beckham everytime he comes off and on the field to let him know how I feel about him, but when he is on the field I will cheer. Am I a hypocrite? No, I (unlike Beckham) care more about the Galaxy patch on the front than the name and 23 on the back! Still, I can't wait until he leaves (it may even be better than the day we fired Lalas and Gullit).

Sorry, for the misspell, Cannon Girl. Guess I'm still a little hungover.

Skippy! Where ya been? Are you on Twitter yet?

  • Cannon Girl

And don't get it twisted (w/ your little hungover, misspelling self), I so have a response to your reply…just a little busy @ the moment. 🙂

No twitter, myspace or facebook for me. Technology scares me. To tell you the truth being on the computer right now is freaking me out a little 🙂 Where is this great response?

I'm working on that Skip. Say…have there been any other Galaxy members who have left on loan and perhaps considered leaving the team and making the loan permanent? And am I to buy that Becks became bored during Sunday's game and decided to walk over to the stands and invite some random guy to come down and fight? And are you sure Becks' stake in this team is all about fame and fortune? Wasn't he already famous (the country knew more about Becks than they did about MLS before he arrived), and doesn't (as reported) the bulk of his wealth come from his numerous endorsement deals and not from his MLS salary? And since there seems to be such an issue about his salary, why weren't there any derogatory signs and banners about AEG displayed at Sunday's game? The way I see it, Sunday's scene wasn't a show of support for the Galaxy, it was an embarrassing distraction from the decent job the team has done this season during Becks' absence. This hasn't been an easy season for my Quakes, but my pride in them for how they conduct themselves as a team on AND off the field never ceases. And my Joe is still as fine as ever, don't ya think Skippy? I know…I AM a trip! WHO-HOOOOOOOOOOO—GO QUAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Good points to bring up, especially about Donovan's possible European move. But by comparing Donovan and Beckham we see the real reason the fans are upset. When he was in Gemany, did Donovan ever say he didn't want to play for the Galaxy? Did he talk about getting his lawyers involved? And then when he cameback did he lie to everyone's face and say, "I've always been committed to the Galaxy"? Beckham did all of those things!!! The reason the Riot Squad was upset isn't about money or fame, it was about the fact that he disrespected the team (and the league) with his comments and then wants everything to be OK when he comes back. Of course the fans are going to be pissed off! They just wanted to let him know how they feel, and nothing they did was out of line. Booing, chanting, banners, that's all normal supporter stuff. (I don't support the guy who jumped out of the stands, but he was baited into doing so by Beckham) I am not part of the Riot Squad, but have several friends who are, and they are all great people, who love soccer and the Galaxy, and the group in no way supports violence towards anyone (check out thier website and its one of the first things you'll see). The Riot Squad just wanted to let Bekcham know how they feel, and I believe if he had just taken it like a man, they would have dropped it and evetually cheered him. Now, after his ridiculous response, I am not so sure.

I am not the biggest Beckham fan (being a Bayern Munich fan you may know why), but I supported him when he first came over to the Galaxy. But the turning point for me and a lot of fans was the comments he made while in Italy. They showed that he cares nothing for the Galaxy. So we, as Galaxy fans, don't care for him!!!

One last thing, I also can't stand the idiots at 19 (beckham's crew) who hijacked the Galaxy organization and brought in Ruud Gullit. The whole Beckham thing is a mess. I just want him to leave, so Bruce can continue the process of rebuilding this team.

Several squad members have been letting Becks and anyone else who'll listen know just how they've felt about him for months now and it' really getting old. Sunday's scene wasn't about the Galaxy, or support, or even Becks…it was about a VERY small group (in the big picture) of people wanting the spotlight on THEM. They wanted their 15 minutes of fame and they got it. That's how those with no real talent for the sport usually get it. "We can't bend it like Beckham so we'll just "Boo" him instead!" Brilliant. Booing…isn't that what children do while out trick or treating? And please Skippy, spare me the discussion of the semantics of being a "true" fan. There are times when some of the moves/decisions made by some of my Quakes and their management don't exactly thrill me. But I'm sure as heck not gonna advertise my feelings on banners/signs during games in front of other teams, the fans, and the media. Not exactly a morale booster for MY team if ya know what I mean, because at the end of the day, I still love my team (every member) and coach. As for your team, other teams now know for sure there's dissension in the Galaxy ranks, so you can pretty much count on the ol' 'divide and conquer' card being played in competition, and at this point it's too late and too irrelevant who started what. This whole thing needs to be squashed and everybody needs to move on. I can't tell you how many times since Sunday I've read about people saying "They actually booed one of their own in front of the other team? That was DUMB!" It's like when married people publicly complain about how horrible their spouses are. I always think to myself (and sometimes out loud) "You're the fool married to him/her." See Skippy, they didn't make Becks look bad Sunday…they made themselves and the entire team look bad. And for what? Sour grapes was all it was. As for Becks "baiting" Sir-Drank-A-Lot…I think it was the other way around. Yes, he could have ignored the guy I'll give you that, and those responsible for those lame banners/signs could have re-thought what they chose to paint on them. As for Bruce rebuilding your team, and this is only me guesstimating here…AEG will probably eventually place the Galaxy on the market for peanuts, and then Becks will probably buy YOUR team as he's expressed an interest in owning his own MLS franchise. But if he does stop playing for them between now and then Skippy, what are you and I gonna have to spar about? You know how I consider these little exchanges of ours like General Foods International Coffee moments in Drewby's kitchen… 😉

  • Kaiser

Interesting perspective…its totally wrong, but interesting 🙂 Actually I can understand your viewpoint on a couple things, but the one comment that I do have to take issue with is that the Riot Squad wanted thier "15 minutes". As i mentioned before I know people who are part of that group, and that was not their intent in anyway. They didn't want the spotlight, they truly wanted to let Beckham know how pissed they are. And I even think if Beckham and the Galaxy handle this right, they will soon be cheering FOR him.

As for the dissention in the ranks…now is where we truly find out how good of a coach Bruce is (he has done a great job so far). Can he settle this all down? Call me crazy, but I think he can. I think the team will find a way to make it work for half a season and make run at the playoffs, then the divorce will take place, Beckham will go to AC Milan, Donovan will go to Europe, and Arena will go on a spending spree with all of his cap space.

After that we will still find things to spar about and have International coffee moments.

Sorry for the delayed response Skippy…the weekend got in the way 😉 You got it twisted (again, sigh), I said "several members", not the entire squad, but thanks for the permish to call you crazy… pssst…I always have, but crazy's fun. And I'm probably going to
regret asking YOU this but did you catch any of the Chelsea/Club Am game and what did you think of it?
