Just a day after beating Spain in one of the biggest upsets in US Soccer history, head coach Bob Bradley announced his 23-man roster for next month’s Gold Cup.

A few good calls include Kenny Cooper, Santino Quaranta, Stuart Holden and Sam Cronin. You can tell Bradley is back to giving those who haven’t had time with the national team a chance in this tournament.

My question though looking at this is who do we start in goal? I know Busch and Perkins have quality but does Robles bring more to the table?

GOALKEEPERS (3): Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Troy Perkins (IK Start), Luis Robles (FC Kaiserslautern)

DEFENDERS (7): Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Jay Heaps (New England Revolution), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaellands), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Colin Clark (Colorado Rapids), Sam Cronin (Toronto FC), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Logan Pause (Chicago Fire), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)

FORWARDS (5): Freddy Adu (AS Monaco), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Santino Quaranta (D.C. United)

No Guzan? Strange. I hope Tino can get some playing time! He's better than most of the other guys on the roster- Evans, Rogers, Clark, Cronin, Beckerman, Arnaud, and Pause, to name a few. Oh, that's nearly the entire midfield, you say? Hmm. Then I guess the only logical thing would be to start him alongside Holden!
I want to see:

Perkins
Dolo—Marshall—Parkhurst—Pearce
Beckerman—-Arnaud
Holden
Quaranta—Adu (withdrawn strikers, not really midfielders)
Davies

If we are winning (gee, that should be hard, with regional powers like Haiti and Grenada in our group!) late in the game, Coop replaces Davies, and Tino shifts back into a midfield role. Pause comes in for Adu to shut things down, and we sub out a defender for Goodson.

So yes, that is essentially a 4-3-3, but really more like a 4-3-2-1.
