Harmse Traded To Chivas
Here’s a trade that went rather unmentioned yesterday. Toronto FC traded defender Kevin Harmse to Chivas USA in exchange for allocation money.
Toronto continues their summer clear out of their roster, making this the third forth player to be released or traded away. Harmse has a MLS home still unlike Johann Smith, Rohan Ricketts and Gregg Sutton who were released from their contracts earlier this month.
Chivas gets some defensive help in Harmse. While I’ve never been a huge fan of his play I do think going back to LA (he started his MLS career with the Galaxy) will be good for him. Not to mention getting away from playing full-time on turf. Chivas needs a boost and if Harmse can do even half of that it may be enough to bounce the Goats back here this summer.
Judging by the move I would imagine this move was made in light of Toronto signing Ali Gerba. I know they cleared the roster space for Gerba with the release of Ricketts but I would say getting the extra allocation money will help go for paying him.
