  • 2009 Week 13, MLS Power Rankings

We now have a new leader at the top of the order. While I was tempted to give the Dynamo the honor a few weeks ago I decided to wait until the moment was right. Well this past week was easily the right time for the move at the top.

Other than that not a whole lot of shifting in the order except in the middle as usual. Keep an eye on Columbus if you haven’t already. The Crew are hotter than ever and are racing up the standings just like Houston did a month and a half ago.

Team Rank (Last Week) Record (W-L-T) Comments
1 (2) 8-2-3 27 pts. Cam Weaver trade makes Dominic Kinnear look like a genius.
2 (2) 8-4-3 27 pts. Missing some key players and for the most part this side is just out of gas. I still have no doubt they will be in the thick of things towards the end of the year.
3 (5) 5-2-7 22 pts. How in the world did Josh Wicks become a solid number one keeper here? Let’s just say he is a very underrated reason why DC is doing well this season.
4 (7) 4-2-7 19 pts. Think we need to just give Guillermo Barros Schelotto his second MVP title already? I see little reason to not do it.
5 (3) 5-3-6 21 pts. Another loss. Not a good sign for this bunch. And what’s going on with Jon Busch? I wasn’t high on him a couple years ago for the same reasons why he is struggling this season.
6 (6) 5-3-5 20 pts. Sometimes a win can do a lot for a club. Though the defense looked a bit shaky towards the end of that one against San Jose.
7 (4) 4-2-5 17 pts. Sad to say the Rapids got lost in a shuffle of having an off week here. Normally I don’t punish clubs so badly for a week off but it happens. I do like the Pat Noonan trade for them though.
8 (11) 5-5-4 19 pts. The trade for Garcia should sure up their defense a good bit. Now they just need a striker to balance things out.
9 (10) 5-5-4 19 pts. Nice win at home against New England. A much needed one at that for this bunch who just keep bouncing around the 7-12 area here.
10 (8) 4-4-4 16 pts. Taylor Twellman means that much to this club. They look totally different without him.
11 (12) 4-6-3 15 pts. Finally a road win. I just wonder if they have what it takes to make a run here this summer. A lot of mess in the middle to battle with and the top part of the west looks to be already done with Houston and Chivas.
12 (9) 2-2-9 15 pts. Only the second loss of the year for Bruce Arena’s bunch. Still if they can’t beat a side like RSL at home then something isn’t right.
13 (13) 2-7-4 10 pts. Bright side for this club, they still hold the top allocation spot. Bad part is no one will want to go to play in Dallas at this point.
14 (14) 2-8-3 9 pts. Some tweaks to the roster this past week didn’t help in the short run. Time will tell about the long run though. At least Darren Huckerby is back and looking dangerous.
15 (15) 2-10-3 9 pts. This club is halfway through their season schedule and have two wins in those 15 games. Let’s go ahead and write them up as the first club out of playoff contention here.

Other than the Crews position, I can't find much to argue with. Looking forward to seeing DC and Seattle tomorrow. If DC can get points on the road against the Sounders and the Rapids this week, that should solidify their top three rank.
