The stars do stand for championships, thats why Brazil has 5, Italy has 4, France has 1, etc. You can find that on wikipedia if you look hard enough.
Fantastic crest, so-so colors, weak name, but its not the worst. In a league with names like the galaxy, rapids, and red bulls, union seems ok by comparison.

Everyone dives to POUND the guy in the bottom in order to get the brown oval squeezed out.(or POP out depending how fast & hard the men pile is created. This is how you can make soccer less soft and more HARD.Ouch yeaaa HARD

Yeah, this has nothing to do with Nike or labor unions folks. Philly is most famous for one thing…um, the founding of this country…the Union of States (originally 13). Wow. Kinda sad about our education. The rattlesnake logo was basically the first flag of the US. As far as Soccer being soft, it’s not. There’s a lot of real contact and injuries. Legs have been broken in half. Heads split open. Do some players fake it to get a foul called? Yes. I agree that’s lame. But it doesn’t detract a thing from the beauty of watching a Messi beat everyone and score a wonder goal.

Personally, i hate soccer and feel it is by far the softest of all the sports (i cant take the dives and fake injuries, and my reason why a football loving country doesn’t totally embrace it) That being said, Philly picked a good name with a great logo. I just dont understand why the MLS borrows all of those traditions that go into European soccer, such as the team scarfs and adopting the term “football club”. If we just dropped the inferiority complex we have with European soccer maybe we (you guys) could come up with our own brand of soccer that might be able to compete on a global scale. Japan didn’t invent baseball but they caught up in talent, and they dont play it like we do. I guess Im saying, I dont know why we aspire to be as soft as the Europeans

Logo is lame… It looks like something the robot cops on futurama would wear. I think the name should be changed to the philadelphia future cop space snakes. Also, there are alot of sat and Sunday games… Which means going up against birds and phils. Bad move… I give it 5 years

No worries, Gus…Philadelphia fans ALWAYS do it better than Dallas fans. If their team isn’t the front runner, Dallas fans just don’t bother.

I think that they ought to go by Union Philadelphia because UP is better than PU but either way, I’m excited about the team, the name, and the crest. The crest is a little dull – I’d like to see a little more overtly Philadelphia too it, but the snake is pretty great.

Folks, it has nothing to do with NIKE, it has to do with Benjamin Franklin’s political cartoon which depicted a snake indicating that a divided union would fall. It also harkens back to the Gadsden flag which depicted a snake and the motto, “Don’t Tread on Me.” Just because NIKE used the same idea for a campaign, doesn’t mean Union is copying them, they’re copying American history.
