Philadelphia Union Logo Leaked

 • Logos, Philadelphia Union

I’m sure by now you’ve all seen this logo somewhere on the ‘net.

You know the more I say the name the better I like it. I know its kind of a cheap attempt to call them United but Union works for me for some reason. Plus lets be honest we have far worse names in the league already so this one isn’t that bad. Also, it probably has more to do with the bad ass crest that was leaked yesterday. The colors are great and really it may be the best logo in the league.

What do you make of it? Sad to not see a better name? Would you take a better name even if it meant the logo wasn’t as good?

PU It's like the S.L.U.T. South Lake Union Trolley, everybody's had a ride. Don't they have marketing agencies help them with these things? Good name though, bad initials.

If anything like Seattle, Adidas won't release the Jerseys until about the 13th of December, I flew around with mine during the holidays, only one comment, now it wouldn't be the same. Welcome to the league.

Being from California, I can assure you that unions are full of snakes, so the badge is very appropriate.

Great name. I'm not from the United States but I'm guessing it has more to do with 1776 and not an alternative to United.

This crest is a flippin' fantastic crest. It already has the image of "tradition" rather than commercial. Great work. I like the name as well, but I am a bit worried about the whole initial thing. Oh well, perhaps management is just hoping to give Headline Writers easy ideas for the clubs first year - "P.U.! Philadelphia Union stinks it up again!"

I believe the term "ZOLO" started because someone misread the "Philly 2010" (the year during which the team is supposed to start playing). It was in a font that made the 2 look like a Z. And that's how the Zolo thing started.

I'm very underwhelmed by the logo. They claim the colors represent the Philadelphia flag- NOT! Our official flag is sky blue & yellow, not gold. Check wikipedia, even they have it as yellow, which I think would be a much look. For the fan from outside the United States, Union refers to Philly's long history of labor unions, not 1776. The 13 stars are supposed to represent the 13 original colonies but what does, New York, Rhode Island, ect have to do with Philly? Aren't you supposed to EARN stars by winning championships. The 4 stars my beloved Italian National Team sports mean more to me than a lazy space filler. Now for the nuclear bomb of the whole boring name game- Philly TV & print media are reporting that SC will be added to the name (Soccer Club) Philadelphia Union Soccer Club or P.U.S.C. It won't take a rocket scientist to catch on that fans holding up signs calling us the PUS-C's are referencing a slang term for female genitalia. What a disaster.

PhillySportsTeams.com the stars do mean something no not championships like you speak of with your "beloved Italian National Team" they stand for the history of this country maybe you don't understand that? (and for one if you support Italy over the US why don't you move there and quit bashing your own city's choice) The stars also are in no way put there to make people think of champions since championship stars are put above a team crest not on them. You are probably just one of those Euro soccer only fags who thinks mls is nothing and shouldn't be watched. I bet you also think the 76ers and Phillies have good logo's which would show your pedigree on such things (76ers is one of the worst logo's in basketball...which has the worst logo's in American sports) So blow it out your ass dude, your the only PUS-C here for thinking that monicker is so bad

Personally, I'm not too upset about the P.U. thing. I mean, I know second graders who can come up with more creative trash talk than that. Even New Yorkers can do better.

No worries, Gus...Philadelphia fans ALWAYS do it better than Dallas fans. If their team isn't the front runner, Dallas fans just don't bother.

I think that they ought to go by Union Philadelphia because UP is better than PU but either way, I'm excited about the team, the name, and the crest. The crest is a little dull - I'd like to see a little more overtly Philadelphia too it, but the snake is pretty great.

Folks, it has nothing to do with NIKE, it has to do with Benjamin Franklin's political cartoon which depicted a snake indicating that a divided union would fall. It also harkens back to the Gadsden flag which depicted a snake and the motto, "Don't Tread on Me." Just because NIKE used the same idea for a campaign, doesn't mean Union is copying them, they're copying American history.

Logo is lame... It looks like something the robot cops on futurama would wear. I think the name should be changed to the philadelphia future cop space snakes. Also, there are alot of sat and Sunday games... Which means going up against birds and phils. Bad move... I give it 5 years

Personally, i hate soccer and feel it is by far the softest of all the sports (i cant take the dives and fake injuries, and my reason why a football loving country doesn't totally embrace it) That being said, Philly picked a good name with a great logo. I just dont understand why the MLS borrows all of those traditions that go into European soccer, such as the team scarfs and adopting the term "football club". If we just dropped the inferiority complex we have with European soccer maybe we (you guys) could come up with our own brand of soccer that might be able to compete on a global scale. Japan didn't invent baseball but they caught up in talent, and they dont play it like we do. I guess Im saying, I dont know why we aspire to be as soft as the Europeans

Yeah, this has nothing to do with Nike or labor unions folks. Philly is most famous for one thing...um, the founding of this country...the Union of States (originally 13). Wow. Kinda sad about our education. The rattlesnake logo was basically the first flag of the US. As far as Soccer being soft, it's not. There's a lot of real contact and injuries. Legs have been broken in half. Heads split open. Do some players fake it to get a foul called? Yes. I agree that's lame. But it doesn't detract a thing from the beauty of watching a Messi beat everyone and score a wonder goal.

26joe wrote that soccer is soft. How to make soccer HARD.I have some ideas that can make soccer more macho for him. Change what soccer players wear. Long shorts is gay. Make them wear shiny tights with pirate like draw strings. In fact players are to average in wieght. (gay). To make soccer less"soft" we need t see 325 lb men squeezed in shiny spandex sucking oxygen from a oxygen tank after a 5 second play.(very macho) Soccer begins game with a player passing the ball with his foot.(gay) Soccer needs to start play with haveing a 350lb man bend over so he can pass a brown oval between his legs to his teammate who waits to recieve with his hands between his legs. Hands need to be SNUG under his nuts. Only then will soccer succeed in this country. In soft soccer the only contact is a slide tackle to the legs.(gay) Soccer needs to have men that make full body contact to the ground where other men from both teams dive to make a HUGE men pile. Everyone dives to POUND the guy in the bottom in order to get the brown oval squeezed out.(or POP out depending how fast & hard the men pile is created. This is how you can make soccer less soft and more HARD.Ouch yeaaa HARD

RE: 21

The stars do stand for championships, thats why Brazil has 5, Italy has 4, France has 1, etc. You can find that on wikipedia if you look hard enough.
Fantastic crest, so-so colors, weak name, but its not the worst. In a league with names like the galaxy, rapids, and red bulls, union seems ok by comparison.
