- Player Signings, Stephane Assengue Ombiogno
Steve Nicol is hoping to strike gold again in Africa as the club has signed Stephane Assengue Ombiogno. He will join the team pending the receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa.
The 19-year-old striker comes to the Revolution from Daga Young Stars, a regional team in Western African country of Cameroon.
“Stephane is a young forward who we believe has potential to make a great impact on the Revolution,” Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “We’re looking forward to his arrival after he obtains his Visa and helping him acclimate to MLS.”
Nicol found a couple solid Africans a year ago with Kenny Mansalley and Sainey Nyassi. I have to believe that Ombiogno could be in that same mold. Plus as young as he is Nicol will likely mold him into a good partner for Taylor Twellman once he is ready for first team action.
My question though is why aren’t more teams using the gold mine that is Africa for their player searches like the Revs and even like Seattle.
