- Walter Gaitan
FC Dallas is currently considering a couple different options at midfield. Right head coach Schellas Hyndman is looking for that “#10” to man the central part of the attack for the Hoops.
His search seems to be coming to a head here soon. The club is currently looking at a couple guys to fill that spot and one of them is Argentine playmaker Walter Gaitan. The 31-year-old could actually sign with the club within the next week according to the Dallas Morning News.
I think we are getting close, Hyndman said by telephone. It will happen before we go back home to Dallas. Gaitan is a player that we have had discussion about. … But I think we are bringing it down to potentially two players, and whoever it is would be a nice addition for our team.
Gaitan is a winner. He’s appeared on four championship clubs, three of those being with Tigres in Mexico and once with Boca Juniors in Argentina. El Divino as they call him down south has a great touch on the ball and could be a huge asset for guys like Kenny Cooper and Jeff Cunningham.
The biggest concern over Gaitan is his current fitness. He hasn’t played a lot in recent months and his last season was cut short due to injuries.
It could be a good signing for both sides if he were to come into Dallas 100% and ready to go. Thing is it could be another over priced player from down south to come to Dallas and fail (hello Denilson or Davino). We will see but I’d love to see this move get done for this club. He could be a difference maker that gets the Hoops back into playoff contention this year.
