Landon Donovan is likely to return to Major League Soccer after his loan with German club Bayern Munich expires in a couple weeks.

The AP posted this report on the matter a little bit ago that National team star would return to the Galaxy and now see a deal for him to be sold to Munich.

“Donovan is an interesting player,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the Munich newspaper TZ in an interview published Tuesday. “But when you have Klose, Toni and Olic already under contract, we think the fourth player (striker) should really be a young player with perspective.”

Its a bit of a disappointment for Donovan. Between Beckham and Donovan I must say I was really pulling for Donovan to do well enough to get sold to Munich this winter. But his stay has been good there and I can see him turning it on again in MLS this season with the Galaxy.

Maybe this summer he will be able to make the jump. Unlike the Beckham saga I just don’t see this dragging out in the same manner for Donovan.

    Free Landon Donovan!

Donovan will probably make a move this summer or at the end of the year! Even if he won't fit with Bayern, other Bundesliga clubs got to see him firsthand, and at least one should make a serious run for him.

I would have liked to see him in the Bundesliga.

We all know what great ability Landon has, but in the league games with Bayern Munich he seemed to be sitting back just a hair. Teams want to bring a player in that can make an impact, I don't think Landon did in the Bundesliga.
Landon proved he is good enough for the Bundesliga, but he did not prove he was so good that someone would want to build a team around him and pay millions for that right.
I hesitate to be completely honest with myself… but I will. Perhaps Landon's place is to be a star in a lesser league, something like England's Championship league (not Premiership). Even so, he would have to reveal massive hunger and desire to make an impact which I haven't seen from him lately. It's dog eat dog week in and week out even for the most talented.
Maybe Bayern's rejection will fire Landon up. I think MLS & USMNT have ruined him at present – his stature there made him feel like he had arrived, ignoring the fact he was only halfway up the stairs. He is still young – he may just need to find the hunger of youth again. Only massive hunger will do.
