Freddy Montero could be a big move for the expansion side.

We talked about how training camp was shaping up for Seattle Sounders FC yesterday but today they made things a little more interesting by announcing the pending contract of Colombian forward Fredy Montero.

Seattle reached an agreement with Deportivo Cali for Montero, with Montero’s acquisition of a P-1 visa being the last step in the process to get him to the club.

Montero has been mentioned to possibly move to the expansion club for a while now. The fact the 21-year-old striker has signed with the club is a big deal. He may be the best signing so far this winter.

He will partner along side with Nate Jaqua, Sebastian LeToux and Freddie Ljungberg in an attack that is really shaping up to be possibly one of the best going into the new season.

Some may have their doubts about a high-profile South American coming up to play in MLS but from what I’ve seen out of Montero and knowing who will be coaching him in MLS, this move should work out nicely for both parties.

I think Seattle has put together a very solid attack so far here. I still have questions regarding their defense but I’m sure given time Sigi Schmid will put that part of the club together nicely too.

What do you all make of this news? Will Montero be a good signing for Seattle?
