Expansion Announcement In March?
At least this website (who’s sources aren’t named) says something should be announced by mid-March. Its more than anything from anyone else at this point on MLS Expansion.
According to the article MLS Senior Vice-President Dan Courtemance said a formal announcement was expected to be made late last year but as of today we are still left wondering.
Courtemanche has since advised that both bid winners will be announced by mid-March, attributing the delay to unexpected travel setbacks. According to The Vancouver Sun, MLS Commissioner Don Garber has visited all bidding cities except Ottawa and plans to complete the trip by the end of January.
Should have known Ottawa would be last on the trip. No way the league really sees them as a serious player. The setbacks probably didn’t help when Atlanta dropped out last week either.
I think the longer it goes the better for a couple cities like St. Louis, Vancouver and Portland. That means the more press they can get out on their bid and what not for the league to see.
Miami seems to think they are a shoe in so I think the longer this goes the tougher it will be on them. Everyone there seems to think news is coming soon or at least that’s the new comment on every expansion post these days. Still I am under the impression that if they are really a shoe-in that the league would have already announced them as the next expansion city in the league. And again as of today they have no been announced as an expansion city.
Thankfully the league is taking their time on this matter.
We will see though. I still have a feeling in mid-February we will know who the two cities are. Money still has to be on Miami and Portland in my books. But again we will see.
