Eylander Signs With MLS Sounders

A move that I think will benefit the expansion Seattle Sounders FC for a for years here, the club announced this week that they have signed USL Sounder keeper Chris Eylander to a contract.

The 24-year old Eylander impressed plenty around the USL over the last couple years. He will be able to study under American keeper Kasey Keller for a couple years before probably being handed the keys to the company car in Seattle.

Eylander played the past three seasons with the USL Sounders, making 78 appearances and finishing with 29 shutouts with the USL side. Each of the past two seasons Eylander led USL1 in saves and finished second in league shutouts.

The few games I saw him play with the Sounders over the last couple years against MLS clubs I have to admit I was impressed with his size and his movement between the pipes.

Its good to see the club bringing up a few of their USL players. Eylander is sort of a home grown talent anyways here. I would imagine we will hear that they will be bringing up a couple more USL players in the coming weeks, unless they make a few deals during the draft or sign a couple foreign players like I am hearing that they might.
