Goal of the Year Finalists

Posted by: WVHooligan In: Chicago Fire| Columbus Crew| DC United| Houston Dynamo| MLS| New York Red Bulls| News and Rumors| Real Salt Lake| Toronto FC

What can I say, its been a slow day around here. Good thing too because I have been busy busy at work. However, I do have some free time tonight to catch up on things. First up is the top five goals of the year, as voted on by you the fans out there.

The league released the five candidates for the Goal of the Year. I have the clips below for you to decide. My vote is still for Robbie Rogers’s goal back in week 26, but Blanco and Cameron both had nice finishes as well. Should have known the Danny Cepero free kick would reach the final five. Amazingly no David Beckham from 80 yards out.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco vs DC United
Danny Cepero vs Columbus Crew
Robbie Rogers vs New York
Will Johnson vs FC Dallas
Geoff Cameron vs FC Dallas

as much as I would love to see Robbie win, I think my team is going to be on the receiving end of the goal… and it’s gotta be Danny Cepero’s goal.

How can you vote for Cepero’s goal!? I think it is pretty sad that MLS fans would actually vote on a novelty like this as the league goal of the year. Seriously, it was a terrible free kick by the keeper, ten yards too far for his front line to reach, but a lucky bounce and bad possitioning by the other keeper make it the goal of the year canidate? It should not even have been goal of the week in my mind. Please vote skill over blind luck. You think this goal will change any minds about the skill in MLS? Only for the worse.

Robbie Rogers’ goal was quality. Cepero’s was a lucky astroturf bounce.

Gotta be Will Johnson’s goal, reminds me of Henry’s goal for Arsenal a few years ago

  • soccer goals: Great article. He does need to improve his form.
  • soccer goals: De Guzman is a great player. TFC would bolster their chances with his acquisition.
  • soccer goals: Crew/United will be a good game.
