- Carlos Johnson, Kevin Ouma, Player Trials
Even though these three players probably won’t get picked up by FC Dallas I thought it was worth a mention since they are looking to make a few moves this offseason. According to their club blog they have three new players in camp on a trial. Daniel Torres, Carlos Johnson and Kevin Ouma all began working out with the club yesterday afternoon.
Torres may be a name some of you are familiar with. He has spent a little bit of time in MLS before with Columbus (2001-2003) and Salt Lake (2006-2007). His position (central defender) is one that Dallas will probably be looking at this winter so they may be trying Torres on for size now to see if they want him for later. He obviously has a connection still with Dallas assistant John Ellinger from his RSL days.
Johnson, another defender from Costa Rica recently wrapped up the season at Bryne FK in the Norwegian second division (along with Torres). I don’t have much on Johnson but its good to see Dallas giving a few defenders a try here. You may want to wait and check on Buzz Carrick’s report of these guys for a better understanding of Johnson and Ouma.
Ouma is a Kenyan-born attacking midfielder who has spent time with Mathare United (Kenya) and Al-Ryan (Qatar). The attacking mid position is another area that Dallas really needs to improve on next year. A few around the club have said that Schellas Hyndman and his scouting department will be looking at players like Ouma and other Africans.
The whole Mansally/Nyassi experiment in New England and the Ekpo one in Columbus proved to most MLS clubs that they need to look at young players in Africa. And I couldn’t agree more with that.
