Atlanta Still Interested In MLS Expansion Bid

NFL owner and Home Depot founder Arthur Blank is still pondering an expansion bid for a MLS club. According to the Sports Business Journal, Blank wants to add a club to his list of sports holdings.

Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, is trying to decide whether to apply for an expansion franchise that would begin play in 2011. Applications are due by Oct. 15.

“We have had discussions with Arthur Blank and his staff recently and those discussions are positive,” said MLS Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs Dan Courtemanche.

Honestly, I just don’t see it yet for Atlanta. If any city in that region of the country is going to get a MLS club it will be Miami. Their stadium situation is an interesting one, the USL Silverbacks have a nice little stadium but it would need a lot of work to get up to MLS standards. Blank has the money to pull this off but I honestly think Atlanta is a bad market for the league right now but I could be wrong.

What do you all think of Atlanta’s chances here?
