Atlanta Still Interested In MLS Expansion Bid

I don't think Atlanta should have a team. I do wish that Arthur Blank lived somewhere else, b/c he's loaded… Atlanta is one of the worst sports markets in the country

r u stupid jpc the atl is a great sports market if u win example the falcons sold out like sixty something straight games with michael vick and the braves consistently get great fan support rather than the marlins who have one of the lowest attendance in the mlb even after winning two world series also i live near the silverbacks stadium and it is very diverse in the area and the stadium is near the marta station so the atl should have a team rather than miami

I can't not say anything; 6 year Silverbacks season ticket holder here; 3 year Dallas Burn (yes, Burn) season ticket holder prior to that. Atlanta is soccer country (Clint Mathis, Josh Wolff). We are hungry to watch MLS in Atlanta. Yes, the stadium needs updating but it is in a primo location to service both city and suburbs. Their striker Kandji just went up to Red Bulls.<br />

There is a great deal of potential for MLS here. I say potential because there has never even been a big game here to compare to. I've had to go to Birmingham AL and Washington DC for WC Qualifiers.<br />

RTB is 100% correct on the Atlanta market. Atlanta gets a bad wrap because the Braves did not sell out every playoff game when they went 14 years straight. Yes, getting eliminated in the first round for the last 4-5 years of that amazing streak got old real fast, so fans did not come out.<br />

In one weekend in North Georgia in September you can have 92,000 plus in Athens for the Bulldogs, 50,000 plus on the flats for the Jackets, 30,000 plus three straight days for the Braves, and 70,000 plus for the Falcons (if they are not stinking it up). Matching the 15,000 fan average attendance of most MLS cities would be easy.<br />

I am confused on the stadium. I heard Blank was going to build in Kennesaw. Having been to the Silverbacks stadium I agree that is a no go for an MLS team. It might be conventiently located, but there is no parking, there is no space for expansion, and there is only one lane in and one lane out.
