Another weekend of action in Major League Soccer. The usual six games on the menu as the playoff races get even hotter than before. A couple big time interconference match-ups are on the plate, as well as some key conference battles.

Instead of the long version that I use to do for game previews, I will just stick with last night’s style for this week and give you a quick pick for each.

Feel free to pipe in your own predictions for this weekend’s games below.

Chivas USA – at – DC United: The Black-and-Red are in a world of hurt right now, they are getting some players back to full health but they desperately need points in this one. Thankfully for them Chivas is not a great road side, especially in DC. No Jamie Moreno could be tough to overcome for DC but I still like their chances after seeing how Chivas has only scored one goal in three games at RFK Stadium all-time. This may be an ugly game though defensively speaking on both sides.

WVH Prediction: DC 2, Chivas 1

LA Galaxy – at – Columbus Crew: The Crew are on the verge of wrapping up their second Supporter’s Shield in club history. A win against Sigi Schmid’s old club would certainly help them get closer. I believe should they win this game they will be within a point on clinching (but it mostly depends on what New England does this weekend). Expect this one to be a bit wild at times but I’m sure the Black Out at Crew Stadium will amp up the homeside to another win and ending some playoff hopes for LA.

WVH Prediction: Columbus 3, LA 1

Toronto FC – at – New York Red Bulls: A good time to bounce back for New York after last weekend’s crazy 5-4 loss to Colorado at home. Should New York lose this game you could very well see this club come undone and fail to reach the playoffs. It could happen but I see Juan Carlos Osorio’s bunch bouncing back thanks to a visit from Toronto FC. The Reds could still see themselves get back in the playoff picture with a win but anything less than three points won’t cut it. Toronto doesn’t win much on the road and I don’t see it happening this weekend.

WVH Prediction: New York 1, Toronto 0

Real Salt Lake – at – New England Revolution: For New England a win will pretty much mean they are in the playoffs (though I think a tie does the trick too). RSL needs any points they can get right now to reach the playoffs. The win last weekend in San Jose certainly gave this club some good momentum going into this game. I like New England though at home just a little more than RSL on the road. I just have my doubts that RSL can put together a two-game winning streak on the road right now. This one should be close though.

WVH Prediction: New England 2, RSL 1

Houston Dynamo – at – Colorado Rapids: If the Rapids are for real here they will win this one. I just have my doubts about that. To me it will come down to the final game of the season for them against RSL for determining who gets in the playoffs and who stays at home. Houston is in a nice spot still but clubs are within reach. This one smells like a draw to me with how Colorado is playing and how good Houston’s defense is this season.

WVH Prediction: Colorado 1, Houston 1

———————————————————————————————

Chicago Fire – at – Kansas City Wizards: A win for the Wizards would put them back in the playoff picture but a loss as we all know would probably do way more harm this late in the year. Chicago is actually a better road club than a home club so I do like their chances against the Wizards. Last week’s win in Primetime for Chicago really gave me hope for this club again after stumbling through the last month and a half. Desperation against what I think is a team starting to pick up loads of steam. Tough call but I do like the Fire on the road. When in doubt pick the best defense too and Chicago definitely has that in check.

WVH Prediction: Chicago 1, KC 0
