Second New York Club Still On

Dust – I agree, but these aren't mutually exclusive propositions. New York could get its first and only MLS club at the same time as the Southeast gets its third club (the Florida teams having failed from hideous marketing more than a lack of Football fans in that area). Remember that MLS plans to expand to add 4 clubs by 2011, which means that after Philly, Seattle, and (hopefully) NY, your town can get one too. Now, people, enough about 'the New York area' getting its 2nd team. New Jersey is New Jersey. No other major sports league in the world would think of denying a club to its largest city for the first 10+ years of existence.

Tough crap New York, you have your team now shut up! Seriously, if you had been more vocal with RBNY maybe they’d be building in Queens. Let’s let the 1/4 of the country in the Southeast have a team, or Soccer’s American birthplace, or another city.

Portland, Montreal, Atlanta and all the other great cities of North America should have clubs, definitely. But for heaven's sake, so should New York. There's no MLS club in any of the five boroughs or New York state, and it's just as hard for New Yorkers to get out to NJ as it is for the rest of the country to get into NYC. New York has the fans, they have the interest, they've proven they're not biting for anything named Energy Drink New Jersey. Anyone who wants the US to have a respectable league shouldn't be against our largest city getting a proper team. No more NY/NJ Metro nonsense. No more Disneyland names for football clubs. I don't think MLS should bend the rules to stock New York's club (when it actually gets one) with good players. Let the team suck or not, come what may. But at least give NYC a real club.
