KC Trades For Thompson

Posted by: WVHooligan In: FC Dallas| KC Wizards| MLS| News and Rumors

Looks like the Kansas City Wizards are trying to make a serious push towards the playoffs. This morning they have traded for Abe Thompson from FC Dallas in exchange for an undisclosed amount of allocation money.

This marks the second striker that the Wizards have traded for this week (the other being Herculez Gomez from Colorado).

Again, the Wizards know their offense is a joke and adding another hard working striker like Thompson is a smart move on their part. I’ve seen Thompson a lot over the last couple years here in Dallas and I know in the right situation he is a quality player.

Does it make them better though is the key question. I think Thompson adds some depth and a change of scenery is never a bad thing for a player that isn’t getting a lot of playing time. So in that sense the move is a good one on the Wizards part. I still think they need work on their midfield to improve their offense. They have quality up top but its their midfield that really needs work.

For Dallas it unloads another player for Schellas Hyndman. I’m not exactly surprised by any moves right now that I see come out of Dallas. Their playoff hopes are fading faster with each day and I have a feeling its only the start of more moves in the coming months by Hyndman as he is looking to revamp this club to fit his system. Whether or not Thompson was a guy to fit his system remains to be seen to me but once they brought Jeff Cunningham on board all the other strikers on the roster were pretty much put into a situation that meant their playing time was nearly up. Thompson hasn’t played much at all since the Cunningham trade so getting him out was a logical move for Dallas.

And it is a fair trade by all involved here. Thompson wasn’t putting up big numbers to that is why Dallas is only getting allocation money in return. I don’t see Dallas making a move for another striker in the league right now though. They need more work on their midfield and defense before they can do anything else.

What do you all make of this move? Smart by KC?

Thompson is a very consisent player when given consistent minutes. His strike is amazing given how poorly his career has been amanged in Dallas.

KC will look like genius’ after Abe settles in. He is a 10+ goal scorer year in and year out it he gets palying time.

Last thought….FCD is a joke around the league in terms of attendance, coaching, personnel decisions, will miss the playoffs, have coach college who could win the big one there either and I could go on but let’s just say that suck on all fronts.

  • soccer goals: Great article. He does need to improve his form.
  • soccer goals: De Guzman is a great player. TFC would bolster their chances with his acquisition.
  • soccer goals: Crew/United will be a good game.
