- Clint Mathis, Trades
It appears a deal is very close to being reached between Real Salt Lake and Clint Mathis. All the club has to do is get all the paperwork done and finalize a deal with Mathis’s rights holder, Los Angeles.
I’m being told now that the Galaxy will trade Mathis’s rights to RSL for either a third or forth round pick in the 2010 SuperDraft.
My o’ my how the mighty have fallen. A third or a forth rounder in the 2010 draft, not next year’s but the year after. Meaning LA could care less about Mathis and they were willing to take a crappy pick like that in the process. Not to say that this deal deserved better compensation for the Galaxy, no, but its just a bit funny to see how one guy can fall off so much over a span of a few years.
I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that even that compensation is too high for Mathis by some fans out there. Honestly, its fair enough. Had it been for next year’s draft then it would smell a little funky from the RSL side of things but overall its fair the way it is.
Should the deal finally get done I will let you all know. They are trying to get everything finalized in order for Mathis to be able to be on the roster for RSL this weekend. Seeing how it is the middle of the day on Wednesday I doubt that will happen in time but you never know.
