Thornton Traded To Chivas USA
Another day, another trade in Major League Soccer. Today’s trading partners New York and Chivas USA. The player involved is veteran keeper Zach Thornton for future considerations.
A very interesting trade for Chivas, while Kennedy is inexperienced in league play he did look well in SuperLiga. But adding a veteran keeper to push and contend with Kennedy for the starting job is a smart move if you ask me. Anytime you get someone that pushes a starter to play better and harder, especially late in the year is a good thing.
We all pretty much expected Chivas to make another move for a keeper after Brad Guzan departed to England this month. Thornton adds 217 career starts and apparently he has looked very good in training with New York as of late.
Overall I like this trade, I doubt we will see Thornton out on the field as Chivas travels to Thornton’s old grounds in Chicago but you just never know. As for New York it frees up a spot for the club to continue their pursue of another striker.
What do you all make of this deal? Its not a high profile trade but it could be big down the road for Chivas.
