meh - the language stuff doesn't bother me - after all the game was codified in England, so the adoption of Anglophone terms helps differentiate football from American football, but I will say this, I'll stop talking about promotion and relegation the day US Soccer adopts promotion and relegation. Sorry guys - but that's one of the great things about soccer and it's what makes the sport count in all divisions and in all areas of the table...imagine if baseball had it, I'm looking at you Atlanta Braves.

Roberto,
I couldn't agree more! I hate the Englishification of the sport here in the U.S. (spearheaded by the idiots at FSC). We need to become our own soccer nation, not a copy of England. I am all for adopting certain traditions from areas where soccer fans come from...we are a melting pot, but why so much from England and less from say Latin America, Germany, or other soccer crazed nations. I hate how anyone with an English accent is instantly a soccer expert. We are our own soccer nation (all be it, still a growing one).

My 2¢..
Plastic horns: They sound fine from afar but when you’re next to some 10 year old who’s blowing it constantly it can lead to thoughts of violence…
English terms that have to do with language but not the sport: Pitch, nil, etc… Those aren’t football terms, they are things they say in England. So unless we start saying ‘loo’ instead of bathroom, ‘costume’ instead of swimsuit, it’s a ‘field’ and the score is ‘zero’.
Please relay this to the folks at Fox SOCCER Channel who seem to forget who their audience is.
It’s one thing on the ESPN UCL broadcasts which go worldwide, but anything US centric should stick to terms we use here.
