Blanco Given Two Year USOC Ban

Getty ImagesFor those who were wondering what happened to Blanco’s punishment following the lovely incident in Chicago’s quarterfinal match in the US Open Cup with DC a few weeks back, the punishment has been finally issued (those who were in charge of doing it were apparently on vacation!).

Steve Goff is reporting that Blanco has been suspended from US Open Cup play for at least two years for his conduct during a quarterfinal game against D.C. United on July 8, a U.S. Soccer Federation panel ruled.

He was red-carded in overtime for his involvement in a scuffle with United players. Later, after declining to leave the field in a timely manner, Blanco allegedly headbutted a United operations official.

Highly doubt MLS will do anything to Blanco considering this incident took place nearly a month ago. If they wanted to do their own suspension they would have by now. I also don’t see Blanco ever playing in a US Open Cup game after the two-year ban anyways based on his age and the fact that he may not even be with the Fire at that time.

What do you all make of this ruling? Fair? Should the league do anything about it?
