Just a couple days after their SuperLiga encounter in DC, the Houston Dynamo and DC United will meet again at RFK Stadium to make up for that washed out game several weeks back on June 4.
Over the weekend in SuperLiga play, Houston got the better of the play out of DC as they down United 3-1 thanks to some nice set piece goals. Things haven’t been that well in league play for Houston as of late though, in their last four matches the two-time champs haven’t won. The opposite can be said for DC in recent league play, as they haven’t lost since the end of May.
Houston has yet to beat DC at RFK Stadium in league play as well over the last couple years but have seen plenty of success in other competitions there.
So what will continue tonight? Hot play from SuperLiga in Houston’s case? Or absolute cold play out of DC from SuperLiga? I think DC will warm back up in league play here though as the pressures of SuperLiga are now off their backs and they can focus on more important things like closing in on the top of the east.
I think the suspension of Ricardo Clark will play a factor in how Houston plays defensively as well. In league play, without key defenders and defensive midfielders, Houston has been able to find a balance to replace those players when they are out. The same can be said for their offense as well. If we get the SuperLiga version of Houston then this will be an exciting game. I just think DC will bounce back here though.
DC responds thanks to the foot of Luciano Emilio. I’m sure he will want to show that he deserved to be in the All-Star game this Thursday.
WVH Prediction: DC 2, Houston 1
