- MLS Primetime Thursday
One of those lovely eastern conference battles tonight on MLS Primetime Thursday. The Columbus Crew hope to get back on track and inch closer to the league leading New England Revolution, while Kansas City hopes to remain fairly hot on the road.
As both clubs head into the second half of the season this match has some added importance. The Wizards haven’t lost since a 3-0 drubbing in Kansas City by the Crew a few weeks back. The Crew saw their four-game unbeaten streak come to an end last week at Real Salt Lake; they’ve won both previous meetings with the Wizards this season.
Let’s face it, the Wizards have to stay hot, a win would catapult them to forth or fifth overall in the league. So a win would be very big for them at this point in the season.
The Wizards will have Josh Wolff, so we should be able to see just how much better the offense can get. I still think the Crew’s defense should be able to slow down the attack of Claudio Lopez and Wolff. I just don’t know how up to speed and up to fitness Wolff is at this point. I would imagine he is fit and ready to go here. But we will see.
The Crew do need a win, let’s not downplay anything like that. They have a couple key players going to the Olympics, so points now will come in handy while they are gone. Getting back on track offensively will be key as well after a dismal effort in Salt Lake a week ago. I think they will respond well.
For some reason this game seems like it could go either way. KC has played better in recent weeks, not great but better. Columbus had a terrible game a week ago so they could still feel the effects from that. I’m going with the homeside though for the season sweep. In the other two matches with these clubs this season the Wizards were completely overmatch. I think that will continue tonight.
WVH Prediction: Columbus 2, KC 1
