Kreis Suspended (Again)
Sometimes we don’t learn from out mistakes in life. Just ask Jason Kreis about that.
Today MLS suspended Kreis for two matches and fined him $2,000 for his latest remarks criticizing match officials. Kreis went off about calls made during Real Salt Lake’s 0-0 tie against the Houston Dynamo last Thursday.
Kreis will now serve his second suspension of the season. He was suspended for one match and fined $1,000 in May after criticizing officials following a 2-2 with Los Angeles.
What were some of the things the Salt Lake coach said about the calls in the Houston game?
“It’s absolutely ridiculous,” Kreis told reporters last Thursday. “Every 50/50 call goes against us. Every home match we play, I feel like we’re playing on the road. I’ve had it up to here.”
Now most coaches in the league know the officiating is largely a joke and is pretty low in standard. The difference between them and guys like Kreis is they hold their tongue and usually refrain from slip-ups like this time and time again.
Kreis may have a point about the calls but we all know that the typical bitch and moan approach to get things your way doesn’t always work. Kreis is now seen as the little baby that doesn’t get his way to the refs and they tend not to forget things like that. They know who dives on the field and who typically complains about everything. Kreis has put himself into a category with the refs that will take some time to dig out.
Did he deserve a second suspension? Sure, anytime you blast off abot something in this manner you are bound to get fined and suspended no matter who you are. The officiating is worth complaining about in MLS but it still seems like for the time being it will continue to be a joke until the league does something about it.
