MLS Weekend Preview: Fireworks For MLS Clubs

Half way home here for the MLS season. Sadly enough my vacation in Colorado is almost up as well. Since the weekend games are split between today (July 4) and tomorrow, I will just make these picks quick so I can go enjoy my final day in the mountains.

Kansas City Wizards – at – FC Dallas: Both clubs got wins in the US Open Cup this week and both need a win right now in league play. KC got a lucky bounce last week at home against RSL, while Dallas found a way to win the El Captian from Houston.

This could be a wide open game since both defenses are pretty weak. I just don’t know if KC can keep up with Dallas offensively, more importantly if they can handle Kenny Cooper.

Dallas should win this one close. KC will keep it interesting though but Cooper and Dominic Oduro may be too much for the young KC backline.

WVH Prediction: Dallas 2, KC 1

New York Red Bulls – at – Colorado Rapids: Two other clubs looking for consistency here. New York is starting to bring on reinforcements, while Colorado is wondering if they should fire their coach. Neither club has really impressed me over the last couple of weeks. Hell, New York got upset in a big way on Tuesday in the US Open Cup.

I think the Rapids get back on the board though with a win at home before some fireworks in Commerce City. Even with a healthy Juan Pablo Angel I am just not eager to pick this New York club to win many games right now.

WVH Prediction: Colorado 2, NY 0

New England Revolution – at – LA Galaxy: Probably the game of the week. New England has been on a roll as of late, while LA was playing good up until last weekend in DC. I think that trip really woke this club up though and probably allowed many around the league to see the Galaxy for what they really are.

The thing is I see a hungry Landon Donovan wanting to take down the league’s best club. That may be the x-factor in this one for me. I think New England has the defense to handle LA and the offense to keep up as well. This could be a fun game to watch though.

WVH Prediction: LA 2, NE 2

Chicago Fire – at – Columbus Crew: The Fire found a way to bounce back this week in the US Open Cup but will that translate into success in league play against one of the best sides in Columbus? I’m not too sure really. Columbus is a little better the Cleveland City Stars.

Columbus seems to be starting to get hot here again as summer heats up. Also, they should be a little bit fresher too for this one as Chicago did play a majority of their main stars on Tuesday.

WVH Prediction: Columbus 2, Chicago 1

San Jose Earthquakes – at – Chivas USA: A western match-up pitting an expansion side that is in need of a win and a club that is slowly heating up. San Jose had a nice draw last weekend in Chicago. But the offense still isn’t going.

I think this one could end up in a draw too. San Jose probably has the defense to handle Chivas. I just don’t know if either will score.

WVH Prediction: Chivas 0, San Jose 0

I'm gonna have to go with a Revolution victory today, especially after LA's loss to DC. Final: New England 3-2.
