Primetime Preview: Western Battle

Posted by Drew Epperley under: Game Previews; Houston Dynamo; MLS; Real Salt Lake .

Home cooking has been good to Real Salt Lake this season. Undefeated at Rice-Eccles Stadium while struggling on the road. Tonight they play host to the two-time defending champion Houston Dynamo. The Orange are winless in their last three after two straight draws.

Houston was actually one of the last clubs to win in Rice-Eccles, last fall they downed RSL 1-0 on a Stuart Holden goal. I think if anyone is ready to end the undefeated streak it would be Houston. Not too many clubs play well in Salt Lake City, but Houston is one of those clubs.

The thing is RSL may be a bit more fresh due to Houston playing on Tuesday in the US Open Cup. But I am struggling to figure out if they can bounce back from their last game in Kansas City. The late own-goal from Tony Beltron may have been a confidence blow for this club.

To me this sounds like a draw though. Houston hasn’t found consistency on offense and RSL may be shaken up a bit. I want to pick RSL but I really want to wait and see how they bounce back from a tough loss on the road from last week.

WVH Prediction: Houston 1, RSL 1
