The USSF has set the potential pairings and sites for the round of 16 of the 2008 U.S. Open Cup. As we all know that round is the time MLS clubs join the mix.

All games are tentatively set for July 1st, though a game or two could get moved to the 2nd based on current MLS schedules. I believe DC is a club that could see its game moved to the 2nd, but we will see.

So here we go:

Kansas City Wizards will face the winners of Carolina RailHawks (USL1) and Real Maryland (USL2)/NY Pancyprains (USASA).
New England Revolution will play the winners of the Richmond Kickers (USL2)/Western Mass Pioneers (USL2) game.
Chicago Fire awaits the winner of the Minnesota Thunder (USL1)/Cleveland City Stars (USL2) game.
D.C. United will host the winner of the Rochester (USL1)/Pittsburgh (USL2) game.
FC Dallas awaits the winner of Atlanta Silverbacks (USL1)/Miami FC Blues (USL1).
Houston Dynamo will play the Charleston Battery (USL1)/Charlotte Eagles (USL2) winner.
New York Red Bulls will get the winner of Harrisburg City Islanders (USL2)/Crystal Palace Baltimore (USL2).
Chivas USA gets either a future MLS club Seattle Sounders (USL1) or a amature club Hollywood United.

So which MLS club puts the most effort in this year’s US Open Cup? Right now my money is on the Fire who have won this Cup more than any other MLS club (four titles).

The New England Revolution game is listed as &quot;Location TBA&quot;- we'll see if they put them another tiny inaccessible stadium like last year, or if they embrace these games now that they're defending something!<br />

Also, here's to Hollywood United getting a chance to take on Chivas USA, the only MLS team to ever lose to a USASA side in this tournament (Dallas Roma back in '06). Of course, they'll have to make it through the USL champion Sounders first, which would be another monumental upset. What a fun story those guys are every time they take the field.

I hope the MLS teams will take this serious so they can play in some bigger tourney's. IF I was LA I would have seen this tourny as an open road to get to something worth playing for, but I know both thier stars were out in their qualifying round.
