Bradley Names WC Qualifier Roster

U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley has named the 21 players in camp for the 2010 World Cup Qualifying match against Barbados on this Sunday at Home Depot Center (1 CT).

Just as expected this roster is largely that of what we saw this past Sunday against Argentina in the 0-0 draw.

Some may surprise you and others may not. I was a bit surprised by the call up of Brian Ching. I suppose his recent form with Houston is largely the reason for the call up. Not a bad thing but I’m sure many people would rather see a Kenny Cooper called up instead of Ching. I really have no problems with Ching at the moment. I’d like of like to see him with the national team more to be honest.

Love the additions of Maurice Edu and Sasha Kljestan in the midfield. Both were called up in previous matches but I would really love to see more playing time out of those two in these qualifiers.

More information on playing Barbados from the press release:

The U.S. and Barbados have only met twice before in their history, the matches taking place in the Semifinal Round of 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying in a group that also included Guatemala and Costa Rica. The U.S. dominated both matches, winning, 7-0, on Aug. 16, 2000, in Foxborough, Mass., before cruising to a 4-0 victory in the final group match on Nov. 15, a win that booked the USA’s passage to the final stage.

With that, here’s the roster:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Dominic Cervi (out of contract), Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Tim Howard (Everton FC)
DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Bocanegra (out of contract), Dan Califf (FC Midtjylland), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jay DeMerit (Watford FC), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Freddy Adu (SL Benfica), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (SC Heerenveen), Maurice Edu (Toronto FC), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Eddie Lewis (Derby County), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids)
FORWARDS (4): Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC), Eddie Johnson (Fulham FC)

So, what do ya think?
