US National Team: Final Spain Friendly Roster Released

Posted by: WVHooligan In: FIFA| MLS| US National Team

Yup, Bob Bradley cut his 24-man roster down to 20 today. Honestly I feel this friendly on Wednesday against Spain will be just like the one last week against England. Not good. But sometimes low expectations yield good results. We will see.

Goalkeepers: Dominic Cervi (out of contract), Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Tim Howard (Everton).

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (out of contract), Dan Califf (Midtjylland), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Jay DeMerit (Watford), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard Liege), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock).

Midfielders: Freddy Adu (Benfica), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (Heerenveen), Maurice Edu (Toronto), Eddie Lewis (Derby County), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado).

Forwards: Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Nate Jaqua (out of contract), Eddie Johnson (Fulham), Josh Wolff (out of contract).

One thought on the roster. Do we really need to have three keepers on the roster for this game? Seriously, I always find that a waste, even in a friendly because you know one will just ride the bench while the other two play.

This roster still seems a bit weak to me, without Landon Donovan this team will struggle to score again. For me, I wish we could have seem some fresh talent from MLS in this one like Robbie Rogers or Kenny Cooper. Look I know we aren’t going to win this one but at least give some guys a chance.

Who do you want to start out of this group?

We’re screwed.

Seriously, why no Kenny Cooper? We need a spark up there, and none of those guys has shown anything recently. And Nate Jacqua’s a joke. I’m sorry, but a guy from the Austrian league does not deserve a spot on the United States Men’s National Soccer team. You can score 50 goals, but in my book, you need to prove yourself in a semi-decent league (which brings up the question ‘Why did he leave MLS in the first place?”).

Oh no we suck again! Totally dissapointing roster choices. Nate Jaqua, Eddie Johnson, Josh Wolfe; are you kidding me, this is the American talent we chose to play Spain with. If I was Spain, I would never sign another contract with US Soccer. This amateurish on our part. Put up Altidore, the dude is trying to sign a contract in Spain, better start Adu becuase he is the only one with a pair that is willing to attack. Dempsey is overrated, he can’t do anything by himself or with others around him.
We suck, we suck, we suck. I think Argentina will send it U23 team over, why waste top talent on a u.s. squad that sucks so much.
Why play top teams with crap lineups and rosters. If I was Altidore or Cooper I would be plenty upset- wanted to use another word but a kid might read this! Plenty of guys who really are in our future are not getting the looks they deserve and this will hurt in the end.
Just in case it wasn’t clear–we suck!
