Primetime Thursday Preview: New Quakes Host Old Quakes

Posted by Drew Epperley under: Game Previews; Houston Dynamo; MLS; San Jose Earthquakes .

T. Shea/GettyTonight’s MLS Primetime Thursday match-up may be one of the more interesting storylines of the season. Most Thursday night games have been good but this one tonight has a little more to offer in terms of drama and interest.

You have the expansion San Jose Earthquakes hosting their old Quakes-now-Dynamo.

The two clubs wouldn’t be two different clubs had it not been for a deal that fell apart a couple years ago between San Jose, its owners at the time (AEG) and MLS. What happens as we all know is the Quakes move to Houston and become the Dynamo. Turns out those old Quakes end up winning two straight titles in Houston after the move. San Jose was later given an expansion bid for this season and thus had to redo the Quakes for a second time.

They come into this match with different momentum. San Jose hasn’t won inĀ  four games and have yet to give their fans a home win this season. Houston are winners of two straight after starting the new season without a win in six contests.

The edge has to be on the side of the visitors even with the amount of emotions in this game. I think we could be in for a real treat from these two tonight because of the emotions. The Dynamo will have just as many emotions about this game and the return to San Jose as the Quakes do in hosting them.

Its kind of a big brother takes on little brother meeting here tonight.

I have to go with Houston though in this game. Their run of play as of late gives me reason to believe they can make it two straight on the road and three straight overall. I think Dwayne De Rosario has a solid night in his old town and Brian Ching nets the game’s lone goal. San Jose will make it interesting but I see the visitors coming away with things.

WVH Prediction: Houston 1, San Jose 0
