Houston Stadium Troubles

Just a day or so after announcing that they would be looking at bids for stadium designs, the Houston Dynamo are now facing a little more trouble for their hopes of building a new stadium in downtown Houston.

The MLS front office sent a letter to the city of Houston and the club’s owners telling the two sides to put up or get packing. The story above goes into much deeper details than I am going to go into but the fact that  MLS and Don Garber say that the club could relocate again if they don’t get a stadium is funny to me.

Its a pretty bad threat on the part of the league to say that the club is gonna move, again, if they don’t get a stadium. Listen, this club won’t be moving out of Houston. The league needs to be in Houston and won’t stray away from it unless the owners wake up and say, “let’s sell the team to someone who is going to move it out of here.” In other words, it just won’t happen.

A deal will come but the MLS needs to be a little more patient when dealing with politics. Look at DC for that reason. DC has had more problems than any other club in landing a stadium but the league hasn’t pushed the panic button on moving them.

The league has to back off the panic button here and let the owners and the city do what they’ve been doing. As someone who lives in Dallas, I know the MLS needs to be in Houston for a club like Dallas. The rivalry has been good so far and will continue to do so as long as they stay in the city. They move it doesn’t only hurt those passionate fans in Houston but it hurts Dallas as well in terms of a good rivalry in-state.

The stadium will come, it just may take a little longer than some what it to.
