Injury reports came out today and for the club that most people (including myself) rated as the top club of the week, New England, will be without some key players for some time.
After thumping the Houston Dynamo on Saturday 3-0, the Revs learned that Taylor Twellman’s injury was worse than first thought. He hurt his knee in training last week, which caused him to miss Saturday’s opener against the Dynamo. Word out of Boston now says that Twellman will be sidelined for up to six week with that injury and he will have surgery tomorrow.
Other bad news came during the win against the Dynamo, midfielder and team leader Steve Raltson (a personal fave of WVHooligan) went down with a dislocated shoulder. He will undergo further examination tomorrow to determine the severity of the injury and how long he will be sidelined.
No April Fools Day jokes about these injuries but with some young players stepping up for the Revs I think Steve Nicol’s group will be fine here. The two Gambian midfielders Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi were very productive in their first full match with the Revs last weekend. If those two continue to step up and Adam Cristman continues to add offense, then I think once Ralston and Twellman get healthy again the Revs will be really tough to beat.
Its still very early though in the season but a tough break for the Revs to lose two key players for a few weeks like this.
