My apologies for not getting to post this sooner this weekend. I was busy with the FCD-LA game on Saturday and then yesterday I was out most of the day and by the time the evening rolled around I just wasn’t in the mood to sit and write.
Anyways, I talked on Friday about the Crew signing Argentine defender Gino Pabula, well it turns out that deal isn’t finished after all. French reports said it was but according to Ives over the weekend the deal is still on the table and being worked on.
Still it seems like both sides are near a deal here and should be able to announce it sometime this week.
Along with that news, the Crew are also looking into 33-year-old Argentine striker Facundo Sava. Some may recall Sava from his days with Fulham, more particular the game where he pulled a mask out of his sock after a goal. Yeah, that guy. Anyways, lately he has been scoring lots of goals for Racing down in Argentina.
Goff says that he would come at a price but there are three clubs that are interested in him do have some cash. Columbus is one of those said clubs (with San Jose and probably either Real Salt Lake or Toronto being the other). The Crew are still hell-bent on signing a striker (or two) before the season starts and good for them if they can pull it off. If they can sign Sava and Brazilian Jocimar, they could end up with a very good offensive attack in the league. Both are still a big IF here but I for one hope both can sign with the club and really make things interesting in the east.
I can tell you this, the Crew need scorers this season and both would be able to do it. Looks like Sigi Schmid and crew aren’t backing down this season as they continue to be aggressive in signing some foreign blood to this league.
Again, good for them if they do.
I will keep you all updated on that as soon as I get further details on it.
