SuperLiga Schedule Set

Posted by Drew Epperley under: Chivas USA; DC United; Houston Dynamo; MLS; New England Revolution; News and Rumors; SuperLiga .

After weeks of guessing the groups the schedule is finally out for those SuperLiga lovers.

Group A: DC United, CD Guadalajara, Houston Dynamo, and Atlante
Group B: New England Revolution, Santos, Chivas USA, and Pachuca

Some sites have yet to be determined. If it was like last year I would say the Mexican clubs will play their games against one another in either Chicago, Denver, or Dallas. We will see though.

While I love the idea of this tournament I think it needs to be reformed for the MLS clubs. I say treat it kind of like the UEFA Cup, in other words give the bids to the middle of the table clubs in the league since the top level clubs have the CONCACAF Champions League (starting later this year). Those mid-level clubs need more international experience here I think and as much as the league is leaning on DC and Houston to carry the league banner around CONCACAF, they can only do so much with the amount of games of their schedules.

Just a thought really as we go into another year. I would much rather see MLS clubs do well in the CONCACAF Cups than in a money maker like SuperLiga. I thought for a little while to scrap the SuperLiga all together but then thought the idea above would be better off for the league and the tournament.

The full SuperLiga schedule goes like this:

July 12: D.C. United vs. CD Guadalajara (RFK Stadium), Houston vs. Atlante (Robertson Stadium).
July 13: N.E. Revolution vs. Santos (Gillette Stadium), Chivas USA vs. Pachuca (Home Depot Center)
July 15: United vs. Atlante (RFK), Houston vs. Guadalajara (Robertson).
July 16: Revolution vs. Pachuca (Gillette), Chivas USA vs. Santos (HDC).
July 19: United vs. Houston (RFK), Atlante vs. Guadalajara (Location TBD).
July 20: Chivas USA vs. Revolution (Venue TBD - Los Angeles), Santos vs. Pachuca (Location TBD).
July 29: Semifinal 1 (Location TBD).
July 30: Semifinal 2 (Location TBD).
Aug. 5: Final (Location TBD)
