DC United is the clear-cut favorite in the East going into the season, and they are definitely among the favorites to win the MLS Cup as well. I’m excited to see just how good Gallardo is because he could very well end up being one of, if not, the best in the MLS.

No… I’m pretty confident that United’s reserves could beat many of the USL-1 teams. the quality of play is so poor that it’s probably equivalent to England’s League 2 (which is really league 4, because it goes EPL, Championship, League One). But United do seem to be cursed in the open Cup (probably because it means absolutely nothing). So I’ll go ahead and give them the Supporter’s Shield, and get them into the finals (losing to Houston, However =), and maybe winning another tournament, like SuperLiga.

And I’m a Red Bulls supporter… believe me, i almost convulsed as I was typing that (but it’s the truth).

While I don’t think they’ll pull it off, you can add the US Open Cup to that trophy list. For the first time in a long time, DC has both depth and “multiple” position players (ie- McTavish on D and on the wing, Burch on D and up top, Kirk likewise, and so many more). Seeing the debacle of the last cup and MLS clubs, I feel pretty confident DC’s “B Team” can handle MLS B Teams and a few half-way decent USL squads (still won’t beat the USL’s cream of the crop though).
