Its March, so that means one thing other than NCAA tournament (yes I do a bracket and will again this year), it means it is time once again for the CONCACAF Champions Cup. This will be the final year for the Cup as it moves into a Champions League style of competition later on this year and into next year.
For the second year in a row DC United and Houston are the lone MLS representatives and both will be on the road tomorrow night.
DC will be in Kingston, Jamaica for their match with Harbor View; while the Dynamo will be in Guatemala City for their match with Municipal.
Here are some rosters that aren’t yet official but are pretty certain to be the case tomorrow for DC (thanks to Goff):
The unofficial 18-man travel roster for Jamaica:
GKs: Zach Wells, Jose Carvallo.
Ds: Bryan Namoff, Marc Burch, Gonzalo Martinez, Gonzalo Peralta, Devon McTavish (mf-d).
MFs: Fred, Clyde Simms, Marcelo Gallardo, Santino Quaranta, Dan Stratford, Dominic Mediate, Quavas Kirk (mf-d).
Fs: Jaime Moreno, Luciano Emilio, Franco Niell, Rod Dyachenko (mf-f).
Not traveling: Ryan Cordeiro, Pat Carroll, Justin Moose, Guy-Roland Kpene.
I couldn’t find a full roster for Houston on the traveling side but I do have a slight guess at who they may be starting tomorrow night. It would be something like this after seeing how they lined up in San Antonio last week:
Waibel Robinson Boswell Barrett
Just a pure guess on my part.
Houston is no stranger to Municpal as they played them before in this Cup (when they were San Jose), they lost 5-4 on aggregate in that series.
Both clubs will need a strong showing on the road in order to feel comfortable about the return legs back here in the States.
I don’t know about you but I am excited to finally get to see some games here in the next week or so. Are you? How do you think each club will fare in this Cup this time around? Will we finally see another MLS champion?
