I sure hope that this starts to get looked at more. Many teams seem to be getting old players. MLS clubs are starting to recruit old men to fill in for lousy scouting programs. I sure hope that the teams that continue to sign older players recognize the short term gain is not the best solution for their club; then again Sigi needs to win at the beginning of the season or he may be looking for work. Pretty sad when the article is highlighting 1996, 1997, 1998 as Olympic and National team glory. What does this say about collegiate and club development of our youth if teams are willing to send dollars to old men. Sad, really sad.
I hope next season a team does something stupid, say offer a huge contract to an untested college player; like say the ones that leave every year to go play second division bundesliga or on some team in Norway. NFL, NBA, and even the NHL (which we claim to have better attendance) all dish big dollars on top prospects; not because of what they have proven at the top level, but because that is how you get other top prospects to stay in your league.
