Ummm...it actually DOES sound like you are knocking the stadium itself. I am sure that the Wizards FO have made the stadium situation very clear And by the way, the Wizards have one of the best training facilities in the league, so he will see that OnGoal is doing everything to make this team successful, which includes bringing a player of his caliber in now, rather than wait two years. They are trying to build the fan base so that the opening of the new stadium (which will be in 2010, since you appear not to know) will be very successful.

Drew,
I agree, I hope Lopez won't walk away from the deal just because of the stadium, site unseen. If you actually take a tour of the place it's really a great little stadium. Our other facilities are first rate. A brand new outdoor training facility (which by the way will be a key selling point in getting some international sides to come to KC for some mid-season friendlies) and use of a very nice new indoor facility as well. Besides for the most part the only time a team ever truly uses it's home field is on game day. The impression that will leave is of a full house of passionate fans.

I have confidence that OnGoal knows how to sell our situation, both current and future, to potential players. I've met Rob and he is dynamic and committed to the franchise. I know Neal and Cliff and they don't ever plan on coming in 2nd in anything they do. I truely believe that the sooner more freedom is granted to individual franchises, the sooner Kansas City Wizards will become one of the dominate franchises in this league, and I'm not so sure it won't happen before then.

Ignorance, sure...but I think you missed the entire point of what I was trying to make here. I'm not knocking the stadium itself. I'm sure it will be fine and much better than Arrowhead and maybe even better than most out there anyways since it is a newer type of stadium. And I've read what the stadium has to offer, so I'm not knocking it there.

All I am getting as with that is I hope he (Lopez) doesn't go into this deal and believe that he will be playing in front of a brand new soccer stadium. I can bet he hasn't played on a baseball field before like this. Its a tough draw for player when you think about it. He will go from very good facilities that he has been in over the years with Lazio, Valencia and Club America to a baseball park. Again I am not knocking it because I know a full 10k is better than 10k in Arrowhead. All I know hoping is he won't look at the stadium and walk away from a deal (no matter how good the stadium really is).

Wow. I'm just contiually amazed by the willingness of some to comment on topics from a position of complete ignorance. Have you been to Community America Ballpark? I have. It is small and will only hold around 10K for soccer, but it's an almost brand new state of the art facility that the Wizards are upgrading. Just take a look at the menu options alone http://hillcrestroad.blogspot.com/2008/02/cab-concessions-menuphotographic-bliss.html

The place will be full everynight making for a far better atmosphere than a place like NE which is comparable to the situation we had at Arrowhead. If your whole beef is that it's small well you've got me there, although I'd argue small and full is better than big and empty. If you're argument is that because it's a minor league ballpark the amenities will somehow be substandard (it's across the streat from Kansas Speedway and in the middle of a major resturant and retail development) you're speaking from a position of ignorance
